Securing Artistic Production!

Berlin and its Flagship Institutions in the Independent Performing Arts
In German.

In recent years, the funding conditions for artists, groups and institutions within the independent performing arts have improved considerably. Berlin’s cultural policy has responded to the eradication of space in the 2000s with a general increase in resources. In doing so, it is attempting to support the increased significance and influence of the independent arts as well as work against the sharp increases in living and production costs while securing minimum social standards. All the same, flagship institutions in the independent performing arts, venues as well as groups, are still far removed from adequate and conditions that allow them planning security.

During the Performing Arts Festival, artists and policy makers will come together to take stock: what has already been achieved? What are the next steps? What cultural policy strategies could be realized in order to secure and develop Berlin as a vital and diverse city of culture?
